The Highway 61 Film Festival is a multiple-day celebration of the magic of movies that was established in 2011 as a means of supporting and promoting independent films and filmmakers from all along Highway 61 and beyond. Taking place annually in October, the Festival is held in Pine City, Minnesota, an area known for its emerging arts and culture scene.
This is the fourth year of the Highway 61 Film Festival, and festival organizers are excited about how the festival has been embraced by the local community and how local, Minnesota, national and international filmmakers have responded to the call for submissions. It's going to be a fantastic festival weekend in Pine City!
Cash awards will be given to the top feature film ($100) and short film ($50) in each of the following five categories: Drama, Comedy, Documentary, Animation and Action/Horror. A $50 cash prize will be given to the top film in the Student Short category for students grades K-12. The Student Short category is free to enter, but is limited to .
As many great films as time allows will be selected for screening at the festival.
Open to the public
Any filmmaker can send in their short or feature film to be considered by festival judges. Early deadline is July 15, 2014. Late deadline is August 15, 2014.
Films many be submitted through FestivalFocus, through digital services such as Vimeo and WeTransfer, and by mailing DVDs directly to our address. Entry fees are $5 per short film, $10 per feature film by the July 15 regular deadline, and $10 per short and $20 per feature by the August 15 late deadline. There are five paid categories: Drama, Comedy, Documentary, Animation and Action/Horror. Student Short entries (grades K-12) are FREE – but filmmakers MUST be age 18 or younger to enter!
