Festival Overview

Visions du Réel is the only “cinéma du reel” festival in Switzerland, and one of the most important in the world. It draws a large audience of film-lovers and cinema professionals, and is one of the rare international festivals in Switzerland to present a majority of documentary films in world or international premiere screenings. The Festival Visions du Réel also constitutes a venue for one of the most important European documentary film markets: the Doc Outlook-International Market (DOCM).

History

Founded in 1969 under the name of "Nyon International Documentary Film Festival", it was renamed "Visions du Réel" in 1995. It is currently presided by former Swiss State Councillor Claude Ruey and is under the artistic directorship of Luciano Barisone.

Awards

About 3700 films are carefully watched by the selection committee, and up to 160 films are chosen for the programme.

- International Competition (feature, medium-length and short films)
- Regard Neuf (international competition for first or second feature films)
- Helvétiques (selection of feature and medium lenght Swiss films)
- Grand Angle (best of other major international festivals)
