Festival Overview

Short Com is once again open for short comedy film submissions for it’s 2015/2016 touring schedule.

Short Com is a touring short comedy film programme that screens the funniest and most charming comedy short films by emerging independent comedy filmmaking talent.

Last year Short Com screened in Edinburgh, London, Bristol and finished its tour as part of the Glasgow Short Film Festival with the screening of it’s annual best of programme and awards ceremony, hosted by Still Game’s Greg Hemphill. The comedy animation team Tea&Cheese took the Filmmakers’ Select Award for their epic pilot of ‘Isaac and Quincy’, winning some quality software programming from sponsors Blackmagic Design, as did Ben Mallaby whose comedy dark film ‘Milk’, starring and written by comedians Paul F Taylor and Toby Williams took the Jury Panel Award. The stop motion film ‘Once Upon a Time In The Shed’ by Barnaby Dixon won the hearts of the audience, scooping the Audience Select Award as well as the Best Animation award, pocketing £300 in prize money. Joe Nicolosi won the Best International award for ‘Hell No’.

In keeping up with its charitable aims, Short Com managed to raise over £700 for the charities CALM and SAMH and will be looking to do more so this forthcoming year.

Creative Director Chris Aitken states: “The aims and goals of Short Com still remain in finding and championing new comedy filmmaking talent by putting content first ahead of production values or star names to as many live audiences possible. The quality of the programme has always been paramount to Short Com, thus reaching and being part of the best of programme should be seen as a real badge of honour”.

Short Com plans to revisit the same cities as last year and maybe more, with Edinburgh it’s first port of call at the Cameo Cinema on the 10th and 11th of August during the Edinburgh International Fringe. With dates in Bristol, London and Glasgow to be confirmed. Short Com will also be holding it’s best of programme and award ceremony at a new location in early 2016.
