Festival Overview

The Boston Science Fiction Film Festival (BostonSciFi or SF42) is an 11-day cinematic event held at the historic Somerville Theatre from February 10th to the 20th. The 2017 edition marks our 42nd anniversary as the oldest genre fest in America.

The first nine days of SF42 emphasizes emerging directors from around the globe. Guests, events, workshops, parties, and meet-ups are also a part of the festival. Since our background is based in the entertainment business, SF42 works at making industry connections for filmmakers. More info will be announced as the date approaches.

SF42 concludes with The Marathon (a.k.a., “The ‘Thon”), a 24-hour orgiastic motion picture endurance test featuring classic, new and schlock films. Think of it as binge viewing with 800 close friends. It starts at noon on the 19th and ends at noon on President’s Day.

Each winner receives swag bag and certificate with the Best Feature, Best Short and Audience favorite getting an award and an iRobot Roomba as well as our signature award, The Gort.
