Festival Overview

The “Festival delle Terre” purpose is to encourage and promote documentaries, short movies and animation productions dedicated to the themes of land and biodiversity. The Festival usually showcases almost 30 films each year in order to give voice to farmers, local communities, indigenous and people who fight for land’s rights.

Submissions for the 14th Festival delle Terre – International Audiovisual Award of Biodiversity - are now open. Centro Internazionale Crocevia is pleased to announce that the 14th edition of Festival delle Terre will take place in the wonderful location of Cinema Trevi, in Rome from 30 November to 3 December 2017. The Festival will be held in partnership with the National Film Library.
The Festival showcases each year in the two main section (in competition – out of competition) a wide selection of documentaries, animation and investigation movies. The purpose of the event is to give voice to farmers, local communities, indigenous and people who fight for land’s rights all around the world. The festival promote through the documentary a better understanding of the following issues: biodiversity, indigenous people, land’s rights, contemporary migrations, food sovereignty.

The sections will be :

Resisting Lands This section will host documentaries about the following topics: safeguarding of soils, respect for the Earth and all small food producers, preserving ecosystems, rural resistance, food sovereignty as an alternative to the global speculation process of planet’s resources.
“Indigenous people. Tales of dignity” We welcome works that expose the problem of small communities that have to fight against industrialization and global economic interests in order to save themselves and their living in harmony with nature.
“Preserving the planet. Alternatives to feed the world” This section will be dedicated to works focused on environment and documentaries about th sustainable management of the resources of the planet, biodiversity and food safety.
This year the festival will also host a special focus about the theme of the work in contemporary society: “Workers and new ideas: better jobs for a better future”. This section will host a selection of documentaries dedicated to work and to virtuous experiences promoting rights and justice for all the workers.

The Festival will nominate a Jury that will reunite to award the following prize: “Premio Crocevia” 500 € for the best documentary.
The festival will be held in partnership with “Immagini dal Sud del mondo”, a film festival that screen each year a selection of independent movies of African, Asian, Southamerican and European filmakers.
The competition is open to documentaries, docufiction and animation movies from all over the world with a maximum duration of 90 minutes
Registration is free of charge; the closing date to submit your work is 30 September 30. Copyright holders of the films who intend to participate in the Festival may include in the registration form a link for streaming or downloading, or send a DVD or a USB pendrive, along with the plot of the film and the filmmaker’s bio-filmography. In case of selection no screening fee will be recognized for the authors neither for the film distribution company.

Competition is pen to all those (individuals or organizations) that have produced audiovisual material on the following topics:
- conservation of ecosystems;
- sustainable agriculture;
- food sovereignty;
- rights and struggles of peasants and indigenous people;
- agro-biodiversity;
- any other related topic.
