Festival Overview

Women Of The Lens is a 4-day Festival of Film, Broadcast and Digital programming created to celebrate and highlight the achievements of black women and women of colour in the UK creative industries. Our dates are Friday 10th, 24th, 25th, 26th November 2017. Our venues are Curzon Goldsmiths and The Cinema Museum, London.

We will bring specifically British sources with an inclusion of wider international regions reflective of women of colour. This platform was created because the underrepresentation of women of colour in the creative industries remains stubbornly low. We want to reveal the complexity, diversity and multiplicities of women, which is ordinarily overlooked in the conventional media-sphere. We arrive because their stories are our stories, human stories with varied narratives - and as such, wider audiences beyond those of colour can truly engage with complex tales, which move beyond the common tropes reserved for these women in typical media representations.

At Women Of The Lens, we want to create a space, which attracts women within the industry and those who have vested interests outside of the industry that build reciprocal relationships that nurture and builds careers. We want to share knowledge which signposts opportunities and develops ideas.

Whilst our stories are by, of and for women of colour, we sincerely welcome allied women - and men, who will support the ethos and spirit of Women Of The Lens through their own work. The Festival will be the primary platform for Women Of The Lens, but other spheres will contribute to a holistic experience as we progress in 2017 and beyond.
