Festival Overview

The Instituto Multimedia DerHumALC (IMD) is pleased to announce to directors, producers and distributors that submissions for the 4th International Environmental Film Festival (FINCA) will now be open until January 15, 2018. The Festival and competition will take place from May 30 to June 6, 2018 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The final program will be released in April 2018.

FINCA was born out of the need to widen cultural perspectives from a social commitment approach towards environmental issues using film as an awareness-raising tool.

With three successfully conducted editions under our belt, the dynamics of each encounter allows the audience to appreciate a wide variety of films on environmental issues and participate in shows, art exhibitions, discussions and debates with personalities from the film industry as well as social and environmental organizations.

Eligibility:

Films submitted may be local or international, documentaries or fiction, experimental, animation, video clips, transmedia, work in progress, etc., pertaining to any environmental issue from a social perspective which promotes and inspires respect for the environment in its broadest sense and in an original way. Films or videos may not participate if sponsored by corporations and meant to promote said companies. Although the Festival gives priority to films that have not been premiered or screened in Buenos Aires for its general selection, the programmers will analyze films to be included in the final selection on a case by case basis.

The Selection Committee reserves the right to choose the films to be shown during the Festival and to sort them by categories, competitive or not, as well as screening them as many times as they consider appropriate. Authors of selected works will be notified with sufficient time to send a copy of the film in screening quality and format, soas to improve the overall quality of the show. Screening formats allowed are: Bluray,
DCP and Digital (upon request). Submission of any other format is subject to special authorization from the Festival.

Once a work is selected, should the director, producer or any other contact listed in the entry form be unreachable, the Festival will be entitled to screen the short-listed film if its quality is found suitable. Once selected, no film can be removed from the Festival’s program.

Formats:

Our inclusion of a variety of formats and genres, from short films to feature-length, documentaries to fiction, animations to reports, works from Argentina and from other countries, reflects the intention of the FINCA to overcome the prejudice that only professionals in the area get to discuss environmental matters.
