Festival Overview

It is no coincidence that the first edition of Fragments, a festival which aims to celebrate and champion diversity, launches in a year of uncertainty and change for the UK. As a London-based festival it is vital for us to express solidarity and unity within the film industry. In programming our festival we will spotlight not only the fantastic home-grown talent that the UK has, but also the incredible filmmakers and film markets across Europe and around the world.

We are encouraging filmmakers of diverse backgrounds to submit their work to us and have created a submission process which will help spotlight the work of groups and individuals from marginalised communities, as well as films which have minority groups as their focus. All films will be reviewed by a carefully selected committee who will consider both the merit of the work and the circumstance of its creation when making the final selection for the festival programme.

Having researched the demographic of filmmakers represented at film festivals we have found that they fail to reflect the talent of not only women behind the camera, but also people of colour, LGBTQIA+ individuals, differently abled filmmakers and many other groups. In the first edition of Fragments Festival we focus not only on giving a platform to underrepresented filmmakers to exhibit their work, but also giving those who may not regularly attend the cinema the chance to see a wide range of excellent films

All films selected for the festival will be eligible for an award in either of the two following categories:

Best Feature Film - £1,000
Best Short Film - £250
Best Film Made On A Phone - £150
Young Filmmakers Award* - £150
*best film made by person(s) under 16 years old.

Awards will be judged by an esteemed jury of high-profile professionals within the film industry.

The winner of each category will receive a prize and the title of Best Short or Best Feature in the first edition of Fragments Festival!
