Thu 24th Sep 15: AIFF OPENING NIGHT: Homage to Science and Technology presented by NOVA

NOVA’s Secret Life of Scientists to Open the Fifth Annual Arlington International Film Festival at the Kendall Square Theater in Cambridge, MA.

Live Event Will Feature Some of Our Country’s Most Compelling Scientists and Engineers. Presented by NOVA and Winton Capital Management.

This year\'s Arlington International Film Festival kicks off with a live celebration of today\'s leading scientists and engineers, courtesy of NOVA\'s Emmy-nominated \"The Secret Life of Scientists and Engineers\" at the Kendall Square Cinemas on Oct 15 at 7:30pm. Executive Producer Joshua Seftel and Producer Tom Miller will lead a “talk show” style presentation featuring short films from \"Secret Life\" and live interviews with notable scientists who have been profiled in the award-winning series. “The message of our NOVA series is that scientists are an important part of the cultural dialog,” says Seftel. “We want to shatter stereotypes, open people’s minds to what it means to be a scientist and show them that science is relevant to their lives.” Some of the innovators who will appear live at the event include:

• Engineer/Classic Rock God Tom Scholz from the band Boston
• Biologist/Miss Massachusetts Pageant Winner Erika Ebbel
• Experimental Psychologist/Late-Night TV Foil Steven Pinker
• Psycholinguist/Highway Speed Demon Jean Berko Gleason
• Roboticist/Adventure Sportsman Colin Angle
• String Theorist/Science-Faith Navigator Jim Gates
• Alzheimer\'s Researcher/Aerosmith Sideman Rudy Tanzi

These gifted and inspiring individuals change our world through science and engineering. \"Secret Life\" honors their work in the lab... and delights in the quirky, altogether human lives they lead once they take off their lab coats.
