Thu 4th Jan 18: Virtual Reality Premieres from Around the World at FAFF 2018

(Tuesday, December 5, 2017 Venice, CA) The 5th Annual Fine Arts Film Festival opens Thursday, May 10, 2018 with it's new Virtual Reality (VR) film section at the Creative Technology Center in the Brewery Arts Complex, and continues on Friday and Saturday, May 11-12, 2018 at the Beyond Baroque Theater in Venice, as part of it's 50th anniversary celebration throughout 2018. Ioana Matei, the Virtual Solution Leader at Procter&Gamble, and Executive Producer/Co-founder of Reality+ Films based in Brussels, Belgium, has been appointed Director of the VR Section and has brought with her several captains of the industry. Judging the VR Section are Raffaella Camera, part of Accenture's Extended Reality practice as Head of Go-to-Market for North America, where she shapes and markets VR packages, Greg Gewicky, VP of Technology at Warner Brothers, and Mark Rickard, a Producer who's brought his extensive feature film experience to VR. Films of all kinds are arriving from around the world - and to honor these appointments a special 25% discount for VR films has been extended until December 31, 2017 - just used code FAFFVR1 at https://filmfreeway.com/TheFineArtsFilmFestival to enter.

An Early Selection in FAFF 2018 is the film "Memories of Miss O'Keefe" a short documentary by acclaimed filmmaker Chris Eyre (Smoke Signals, Skinwalkers), in coordination with the O'Keefe Museum, which shares intimate reflections from generations of the Lopez family, who worked for iconic artist Georgia O’Keeffe in her home in northern New Mexico. Also screening is "The Secret Life of Porligat: Salvador Dali's House". Art world figures, narrative features, along with experimental art films, VR, animations, student films, and music videos.

The full line up of films will be announced in April 2018.

The Festival is dedicated to presenting the finest new films about art in the western capital of the art world. The films — narratives, documentaries, and experimental — tell stories about how art is made, how artists survive, how dealers and collectors think, and even how an artist becomes world famous with no formal training.

“We are very proud to be offering a VR section beginning this year, we believe it's high time, and so proud to have Ioana, Raffaella, Greg, and Mark on our team of eminent Judges. We'll be screening many great and never-before-seen films, and are proud to be working with fine filmmakers from around the world. Films about art are always a labor of love. Tthe film and art worlds intertwine and it's easily forgotten how much blood, sweat, and tears go into the work we do. We expect this festival will amaze audiences and draw a wide, intelligent, cutting edge, and fun crowd from both the film and art world." says Juri Koll, Founder and Director of the Venice Institute of Contemporary Art (ViCA), which produces the Festival as part of it's exhibition programs.

Sponsors past and present include Angel City Brewery, Blick Artist Materials, Flake, Cerveteca, Clutch, Perfect Balance Trail Mix, Universal Art Gallery, Exhale, Ingo's Tasty Diner, the Fresco School, and many others.
